1956 - A very different America. Our Grandparents had come to America to start a new life, to invest in a United States where there was hope and promise for anyone with the drive and determination to carve that life out for themselves. These immigrants invested deeply in that United States and even sent their children off to fight a war to protect that freshly adapted way of life.
1956 was a world where WW2 veterans were settling down to raise their families. Moms stayed home to raise the kids. We went Trick or Treating without an adult in tow not because the parents didn’t care but because we were safe in our communities. We all grew up to be Beatniks and a little later, Hippies. The Vets and Moms are gone now, we've raised our own families and they are starting to raise theirs. I hope that on Halloween 2021 our Grandchildren can Trick or Treat without grownups in security and safety.
